E-MAIL CONFIGURATIONS:

Before we begin

Welcome to Atlantic Internet Services email facility
We trust that you will enjoy communicating to the whole world instantly through your Atlantic email! This document is intended to help you create an email account using Outlook Express. This document is intended for first time users, although helpful for computer fundies alike as a quick guide. For technicians that just quickly want technical information, you can find it in the technical information section at the end of this document. If at any time you struggle, do not hesitate to phone your local Atlantic branch. Enough talking; lets begin.

E-mail in general
Email works through the Internet, thus you must have a working Internet connection. For information on creating an Internet connection, please refer to relevant Internet setup documentation for your operating systems, such as Windows. Also, if your Internet does not work properly, your email will not work properly.

Note that you will have an Internet username and password and a separate email username and password, for example you might have an Internet username such as atlantic0000@lantic.net and an email username such as mymail. This is required so that the email computer, called a server, can identify you and know which mail to send to you. The password is required so that nobody else will be able to download your email, as you should keep the password secret.

Please check the following:

  • Again, please verify that you have a working Internet connection.
If you do not have one yet, you may want to refer to the Internet setup documentation first.
  • Please note that this document is intended for Microsoft Express versions 5 and 6, which comes with Windows and not Microsoft Outlook, which comes with the Microsoft Office XP suite.
  • Please close all open programs for the set-up procedure to continue uninterrupted.
  • Where Outlook Express versions 5 and 6 differs, it will be explicitly shown.
  • The pictures depicted here might differ slightly from how they look on your computer.
You might for instance have a Windows theme installed, which will change the whole look and feel of your Windows.
Also, this documentation was created on Windows XP, which looks different from previous versions of Windows. This does not imply that you will need Windows XP, only that the depicted pictures might look slightly different.
  • To keep this documentation uncomplicated, we will only make the necessary adjustments.
Thus, if you see options that we do not cover in this document, they are non-critical adjustments that should not interfere with your email.
  • If you still have problems, do not hesitate to phone your local Atlantic branch to help you.
